The WEPA paper mill relies on alphalogs.

WEPA is a paper mill located in Arnsberg. Each year, it produces well over 600,000 tonnes of hygiene paper. It has more than 2,900 employees at 10 locations across Europe.

That makes it Germany’s largest independent company in its sector, and number 5 in Europe. alphalogs reviewed and optimised WEPA’s entire logistics strategy.

alphalogs also supported and monitored the general contractor, enabling the logistics centre to start up real operations without any teething problems just twelve months after contract signature. The deadline was only exceeded by a few days. The result? Since the new logistics centre has started being used, WEPA has not had to send any stock to external shipment warehouses; contingency and relapse strategies are no longer required.


Analysis of the previous WEPA logistics centre showed that a new high-bay warehouse would increase service quality and reduce logistics costs. But to optimise the entire logistics strategy, alphalogs’ logistics strategists recommended a completely new centre with automatic high-bay warehouse.


alphalogs planned all necessary process steps early on, precisely adjusted internal processes, initiated modifications to host systems, pushed for personnel contract adjustment, held in-depth information events, co-ordinated training sessions for the relevant staff members, and planned system start-up in detail.


alphalogs’ task was to responsibly monitor and control all parties involved in the process. This meant its logistics consultants were in charge of managing projects for the logistics divisions of the new high-bay warehouse, adjusting existing processes, and co-ordinating IT structures. The alphalogs team precisely ensured all logistics deliveries and services were as per the contract. alphalogs attended to preliminary acceptance prior to commencement of use, initiated official acceptances early on, checked setup for completeness and quality, made sure mechanisms and controls were in flawless condition, and that all functions had been integrated with WEPA systems (acceptance tests for function and integration). alphalogs’ logistics experts also ensured proper performance was demonstrated through the agreed maximum values over several hours, and that all throughput acceptance tests had been conducted. Furthermore, alphalogs logged data right around the clock when the system successfully proved its 97% availability during one week of real operations (availability acceptance test 1).

The all-clear was thus given for preliminary approval, and the system began operation. alphalogs was also responsible for final approval, monitored the repair of all residual defects, and successfully checked the agreed availability of 98% (availability acceptance test 2) two months after commencement of operations. For WEPA, this meant more freedom of action and more time for its core tasks.
